Low Carbon Milestones And Ofgem

EDM number 1812 in 2006-07, proposed by Ian Gibson on 02/07/2007.

That this House welcomes the new role outlined for Ofgem in the recent Energy White Paper of analysing the long-term energy outlook in order to address concerns about security of supply; notes that having this mechanism in place will allow the Government both better to analyse future energy requirements and to ensure the creation of a closer link between energy policy and the building regulations strategy; further notes that the regulator would benefit from the publication of a Government-endorsed energy generation low carbon milestones document to help it fulfil its new remit; and calls on the Government to publish an energy generation low carbon milestones document both to enable Ofgem to meet the objectives outlined in its new role and to ensure that energy policy is closely connected with the building regulations strategy.
