Smith Electric Vehicles And Energy Efficiency

EDM number 1860 in 2006-07, proposed by Sharon Hodgson on 05/07/2007.

That this House believes that all efforts need to be made to reduce the consumption of energy used in road transport; warmly congratulates Smith Electric Vehicles of Washington, the main producer of milkfloats since the Second World War, on its innovative and fast-growing production of energy-efficient electric delivery vans; notes that the easily recharged battery-powered vans reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40 per cent. and to zero if the electricity is purchased from renewable sources; welcomes the decision of Sainsburys, TNT, Marks and Spencer, DHL, Starbucks and Royal Mail to order vehicles from the company; and earnestly hopes that other companies and public sector organisations with large and small delivery fleets follow these examples.

This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs.
