Rape Convictions

That this House expresses concern that despite great progress made in the treatment of rape victims in the criminal justice system, an estimated 85 per cent. of rapes are never reported to the police; notes with concern that when rapes are reported the conviction rate is below six per cent.; recognises that in order to encourage victims of rape to report the crime they must be given confidence in the criminal justice system; and calls on the Government to take action to improve the way that this serious crime is dealt with.
