Rechargeable Batteries

EDM number 701 in 2007-08, proposed by Sharon Hodgson on 15/01/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Consumers and Energy.

That this House recognises that the average UK household uses 21 batteries a year, which generates 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of waste batteries of which fewer than 1,000 tonnes are recycled; believes greater steps should be taken by manufacturers, retailers and consumers to increase the use of rechargeable batteries; congratulates the Sunderland Echo and its partners Wear1 on their Recharging the City campaign; and encourages hon. Members to follow the fine example set by the campaign and promote the use of rechargeable batteries in their constituencies.

This motion has been signed by a total of 48 MPs.
