Ministry Of Food Manifesto

EDM number 209 in 2008-09, proposed by Lynne Jones on 09/12/2008.
Categorised under the topic of Obesity.

That this House is concerned that nearly 40 per cent. of adults and 30 per cent. of children are obese or overweight and that obesity costs the NHS £4.2 billion a year, even more than costs due to smoking; is alarmed that the National Obesity Forum is predicting that in 10 years' time, 75 per cent. of people will be overweight or obese; and therefore supports Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food Manifesto and calls on the Government to back the Manifesto by supporting local councils to set up food centres all over the country and by providing funding for foundation cookery classes for adults and for mobile food centres for deprived neighbourhoods.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
