BBC World Service And BBC World News

EDM number 433 in 2008-09, proposed by John Mann on 13/01/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Broadcasting.

That this House notes the excellence of BBC World Service and BBC World News, the variety of languages in which it is broadcast and the hundreds of different languages that will be spoken by people visiting the London 2012 Olympics; believes people in the UK should be able to benefit from the different outputs of the two international BBC services, and that they could be useful within the UK to broadcast public sector messages to communities where English is not the first language; and calls on the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the regulatory authorities and the BBC to work together to ensure that bandwidth and all other practical considerations have been satisfied so that both the BBC World Service and BBC World News are available on UK Digital in time for the 2012 Olympics.

This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
