Appointment Of A Commissioner For Animal Welfare

That this House celebrates the high standards of animal welfare in the UK; welcomes the contribution of many UK charities on this issue; believes however that animal welfare standards could benefit from a more focused, national strategic approach; and urges the Government to appoint a Commissioner for Animal Welfare with overall responsibility for animal welfare issues, to ensure that animal welfare standards are enforced nationally and comprehensively and that animal issues are given the priority they deserve.
