Proposed Burning Of The Koran

EDM number 713 in 2010-12, proposed by Simon Hughes on 09/09/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Religion and faith communities.

That this House condemns the proposed actions of American pastor Terry Jones who intends to burn copies of the holy text of the Koran on the anniversary of 9/11 which this year coincides with the festival of Eid; is concerned that such an incendiary act will only serve to alienate the peace-loving majority of the Islamic community; believes that images of such events provide propaganda for extremist groups which could put British citizens at risk in Afghanistan and around the world and reverse much of the excellent work they have done to build stronger relationships with the Muslim world; and affirms the commitment of this House and also all right-thinking residents of the United Kingdom to uphold the values of tolerance and respect for all faiths in this country and across the globe.
