Polluter Pays Principle

EDM number 734 in 2010-12, proposed by Alan Meale on 14/09/2010.

That this House is aware of the Government's intentions to reduce all its Departments' spending in order to cut the current level of deficit caused directly by the global economic crisis; notes that the cost of the conservation of nature can be much reduced as a burden upon taxpayers by the placing of blame under the polluters pays principle upon those mainly responsible for such environmental damage; and believes that the present Coalition Government should recall its promises at the last general election and make them the priority of current Government policies in order to protect our countryside and its wildlife and restore its biodiversity to levels which safeguard its future.
