Jazz On BBC Radio

EDM number 746 in 2010-12, proposed by Michael Connarty on 15/09/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Broadcasting.

That this House is concerned that BBC Radio devotes such little broadcasting time to jazz, with six hours a week on Radio 3, constituting only 3 per cent. of broadcasting time, compared with 88 per cent. for classical music and with 3.5 hours a week on Radio 2; and therefore calls on the BBC properly to fulfil its Charter obligations by adopting an approach which gives significantly more air time to jazz and other musical genres, such as folk, blues and world music, which are similarly under-represented on BBC Radio.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs.
