Cyprus Famagusta Annual Rally

EDM number 749 in 2010-12, proposed by Jim Sheridan on 15/09/2010.
Categorised under the topic of European Union.

That this House warmly congratulates the Mayor of Famagusta, Mr Alexis Galanos, the members of the Famagusta municipality and the people of Famagusta on again holding their annual rally to remind the United Nations, European Union and countries such as the UK and the US of the continuing injustice that the Republic of Cyprus and in particular the town of Famagusta still to this day faces as a result of the illegal Turkish military invasion and occupation of a large area of Cyprus since July 1974; and calls on the Government to use its influence to seek the full reopening and development of the town of Famagusta which would greatly benefit both Greek and Turkish Cypriots and lead to real confidence-building measures which would play a major role towards an honourable and lasting settlement to the long-running tragedy Cyprus has faced since the events of July 1974.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
