Financial Fair Play In The Football League

EDM number 1005 in 2012-13, proposed by Timothy Farron on 31/01/2013.
Categorised under the topic of Sports.

That this House commends the Financial Fair Play policies enacted by the Football League; recognises the positive impact these measures will have on ensuring clubs do not spend beyond their means in order to reach the Premier League's promised land; further recognises that this can only benefit football fans who are too often being given cause to despair over the vulnerability of their club to irresponsible owners failing to run clubs sustainably; notes that penalties will remain applicable to clubs who do achieve promotion by breaking the fair play rules in the form of a fair play tax; further commends those league clubs such as Derby, Morecambe and others who have introduced innovative schemes to improve attendances and ensure ticket prices remain affordable to fans; and calls on clubs to continue exploring options to fill grounds with passionate supporters of their local team.
