EDM number 717 in 2012-13, proposed by Chris White on 12/11/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Companies.

That this House notes that 15 November 2012 is Social Enterprise Day; believes that social enterprises across the country make a significant difference to society by not only creating jobs and growing local economies but also by seeking to improve the well-being of communities through a range of innovative projects and reinvesting their profits back into their communities; further notes that social enterprise is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy; further notes the potential that social enterprises have to improve the economic performance of the country; calls on the Government to do as much as possible to remove barriers in the way of social enterprises, improve access to finance for social enterprises and to ensure that there is a level playing field for social enterprises in public sector contracts; and congratulates Social Enterprise UK and regional social enterprise organisations for the hard work they do in supporting social enterprises and their development.
