Graduated Driver Licensing
EDM number 736 in 2012-13, proposed by Roger Williams on 19/11/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Children and families and Roads.
That this House recognises that young drivers between the ages of 16 and 25 are disproportionately involved in road accidents with more than one in five people killed or seriously injured on Britain's roads having been in a crash involving a young driver, despite only nine per cent of driving licence holders being aged 25 years or under; believes that this is a tragic waste of young lives and has an appalling effect on their families and friends; recognises that other countries including the US, Canada and Australia have introduced measures to address this problem; and calls on the Government to give serious consideration to implementing actions such as graduated driver licensing which would make young drivers safer and which is supported by young people facing high motor insurance premiums.
