Marange Diamonds Zimbabwe

That this House urges the Government to ensure that EU sanctions on companies trading in Marange diamonds are strengthened by retaining the state-owned mining company, Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC), on the sanctions list as well as adding to the list Anjin Investments, businessman Sam Pa and Sam Pa's investment vehicle in Zimbabwe, Sino Zimbabwe Development, all three being involved in diamonds or other commercial ventures that benefit members of the security services, as documented by Global Witness; and further believes that the Government should instruct diamond trading and retailing companies operating in the UK to disclose publicly what due diligence they undertake to ensure that they are not trading in diamonds sourced from entities or individuals that are on the EU sanctions list, including disclosure of due diligence on polished stones, not just rough diamonds.
