EDM number 589 in 2017-19, proposed by Bambos Charalambous on 23/11/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Europe, Human rights and International politics and government.

That this House welcomes the visit of the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus to London in September 2017 to obtain information on potential burial sites of missing persons, to inform politicians, and members of Missing Persons committees in the diaspora and others on their work and to seek information on the period of 1963-64 and 1974 from people and consider new research in British archives; congratulates the work of journalists Sevgul Uludag and Christina Pavlou Solomi Patsia of the bicommunal association of the Relatives of Turkish and Greek Cypriot missing persons, Together We Can, who with the Organisation of the Relatives of Missing Cypriots UK, consulted UK families of the Missing sought the support of British politicians for former British soldiers and others to share what they know on a confidential basis or directly with the relevant authorities in Cyprus; acknowledges the value of this humanitarian work which brings together those from the communities in Cyprus who share the pain of having lost a family member without knowing their fate; recognises that this cooperation and constructive work augurs well for the ability of Cypriots to make a settlement for all Cypriot both on the island and in the UK; and urges the Government to continue to support this work as a contribution to that positive outcome.
