Standards For Civil Protection In England And Wales

EDM number 122 in 1999-00, proposed by Tom Brake on 30/11/1999.

That this House welcomes the introduction of Standards for Civil Protection in England and Wales but, in view of the consistent reduction of the Civil Defence Grant over the last six years, expresses concern over the ability and willingness of local authorities to make the requisite resources available to their emergency planning services; and calls on the Government to introduce a new Civil Protection Act to provide the requisite statutory and financial framework to ensure local authorities are adequately prepared for their role during major emergencies such as the Paddington rail crash.

This motion has been signed by a total of 37 MPs.
