Suez Canal Zone Medal

EDM number 309 in 2001-02, proposed by Annette Brooke on 24/10/2001.

That this House is concerned that despite many representations over the years, there is no award of a 'Suez Medal' for those who served during the 1951 to 1954 emergency; notes that the Royal British Legion passed a resolution at its annual conference earlier this year urging its National Council to use its influence with the Ministry of Defence on this matter; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to invite the Committee on the Grant of Honours, Decorations and Medals to reconsider their policy, not merely relying on the past history of why it was not granted but to make sure that due recognition with equality of treatment is given to this group of servicemen whilst at least some are still alive.
