Welfare Of Animals

EDM number 119 in 2003-04, proposed by Mike Hancock on 26/11/2003.

That this House believes that all animals should be treated as sentient beings and is concerned that unacceptable practices where animals are treated as objects still continue; further believes that all animals, at whatever stage of evolution, deserve protection and recognition; welcomes New Zealand's decision to introduce a bill to grant apes certain basic rights; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to improve the welfare and status of all animals in the United Kingdom.

This motion has been signed by a total of 35 MPs.
