Transfer Of Lloyds Tsb Group Jobs To India

EDM number 198 in 2003-04, proposed by Mark Lazarowicz on 03/12/2003.

That this House expresses concern at Lloyds TSB's plans to transfer 1,500 United Kingdom jobs to India by the end of 2004, with possibly thousands more to follow after that; recognises the threat the decision poses to the 2,400 jobs at Scottish Widows in Edinburgh and the 970 jobs at its Glasgow call centre, particularly as these jobs are of the type targeted for 'off-shoring', and the precedent it could set for the further transfer of jobs abroad by other companies in this sector; further believes that Lloyds TSB should not ignore its corporate social responsibility to both staff and customers in the United Kingdom, especially as the majority of its business is in this country; and therefore calls on the bank to reconsider its decision as soon as possible.

This motion has been signed by a total of 52 MPs.
