JOBSEEKER'S ALLOWANCE
EDM number 2364 in 2007-08, proposed by Paul Flynn on 28/10/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Incomes and poverty and Working age benefits.
That this House notes that the £60.50 weekly jobseeker's allowance payable to unemployed people aged 25 years or over, including those who have lost their jobs as a result of the economic recession, is less than one-third of the minimum wage for full-time work and less than half of the £124.05 minimum guarantee for the poorest pensioners; and urges the Government to review the level of jobseeker's allowance to ensure that victims of the recession are not condemned to live in abject poverty.
