British Cycling

EDM number 1940 in 2008-09, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 20/07/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Sports.

That this House welcomes the strength of British cycling; congratulates Mark Cavendish on winning eight stages in the Tour de France, equalling the record for the number of stage wins by a British rider in the Tour; notes the excellent performance by Bradley Wiggins who is currently in 3rd place in the overall standings for the Tour de France; recognises that this success builds on the superb effort of cyclists in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in which British cyclists won 14 medals; further recognises that this success will help attract more people to the sport; and looks forward to British cycling going from strength to strength, achieving even greater success at the 2012 London Olympics and future cycling races including the Tour de France.

This motion has been signed by a total of 48 MPs.
