Relations Between Republic Of Turkey And Republic Of Armenia

That this House welcomes the recent Protocols on the Development of Relations and the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Armenia, signed by the Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu and his Armenian counterpart, Edward Nalbandian in Zurich on 10 October 2009; finds these developments very encouraging for the creation and maintenance of an atmosphere of trust and confidence between the two countries; applauds the desire by both sides to develop bilateral cooperation in political, economic, cultural and other fields; notes the mutual commitment to respect equality, sovereignty and non-intervention in the internal affairs of other states, territorial integrity and inviolability of frontiers and condemnation of all forms of terrorism, violence and extremism irrespective of their cause; welcomes the agreement to open the common border between the two countries and establish an intergovernmental bilateral commission for regular political consultations between the two countries; notes the agreement to implement dialogue on the historical dimension with the aim of restoring mutual confidence between the two nations; and believes these developments will strengthen peace, security and stability in the region as a whole.
