Sugar Reduction In Soft Drinks

EDM number 968 in 2012-13, proposed by Keith Vaz on 24/01/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Consumers, Food and Manufacturing industries.

That this House welcomes the decision made by GlaxoSmithKline to reduce the amount of sugar in two of their best selling drinks; notes that Lucozade will reduce sugar content by 8 per cent and Ribena by 10 per cent; recognises that food and soft drink manufacturers must take some responsibility for helping people to make healthier choices; further notes that currently the Responsibility Deal agreements with industry are voluntary; recommends other manufacturers follow suit and reduce sugar content in their products; and calls on the Government to introduce legislation to limit the amount of sugar, salt and fat in food and drink.
