Situation In The Moluccas

EDM number 78 in 2000-01, proposed by Andrew Rowe on 12/12/2000.

That this House notes with deep concern that the Christians in the Moluccas are facing increasing threats to their lives and freedom; further notes that the Jihad militant movement, Laskar Jihad, has declared their plan to resolve the 'Christian problem' in the next few weeks, stating that 'there will be no churchbells ringing in Ambon by Christmas'; was concerned to hear Christians on Seram island and in North Maluku have received an ultimatum either to convert to Islam or face being killed; and urges Her Majesty's Government to ask the Indonesian Government to take immediate and appropriate action to avert this situation and to allow for international intervention and assistance where necessary.

This motion has been signed by a total of 100 MPs.
