G8 And Eu Presidencies

EDM number 33 in 2004-05, proposed by Alan Duncan on 23/11/2004.

That this House urges the Government to use its presidencies of the G8 and EU in 2005 to highlight issues of international development and to influence rich nations to do more to alleviate poverty and suffering in the developing world; recognises that Africa's plight must be put to the top of the agenda; calls for renewed commitments by the international community to working towards the Millennium Development Goals, combating HIV/AIDS, promoting good governance, reforming the HIPC debt relief initiative, and ensuring successful world trade negotiations in order to bring an end to western protectionist measures that discriminate against poor countries in order to give the developing world real opportunities for poverty eradication.

This motion has been signed by a total of 85 MPs.
