World Hepatitis Day 2008

EDM number 1469 in 2007-08, proposed by David Amess on 01/05/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases and Health education and preventive medicine.

That this House notes that 19th May 2008 will be the first World Hepatitis Day; is concerned that more than 500 million people worldwide have either chronic hepatitis B or chronic hepatitis C which is equivalent to one in 12 of the global population; is deeply concerned that these two diseases kill 1.5 million people annually; believes that worldwide action is needed in order to save millions of lives; hopes that World Hepatitis Day will increase public awareness of hepatitis B and C in the UK and internationally; and urges the Government to support World Hepatitis Day and to help put it on the World Health Organisation agenda.

This motion has been signed by a total of 63 MPs.
