Guideline Daily Amount Labelling

EDM number 1518 in 2007-08, proposed by Alistair Carmichael on 08/05/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Consumers, Food and Service industries.

That this House welcomes recent consumer research undertaken by the Mirror Group newspaper reader panel on front of pack guideline daily amounts (GDA) nutrition labelling that showed 90 per cent. of those polled were aware of the labels, 63 per cent. of those polled had used the labels, that 85 per cent. of those polled found them easy to understand and 82 per cent. of those polled thought they contained all the information they wanted; considers it encouraging that GDA labelling has now been adopted by 64 major food companies and appears on the front of pack on more than 25,000 products in UK supermarkets; and urges more manufacturers and retailers to adopt the GDA scheme in order to help consumers make informed food choices.

This motion has been signed by a total of 51 MPs.
