Broadband Speed

EDM number 646 in 2007-08, proposed by Mark Durkan on 08/01/2008.

That this House recognises the importance of broadband speed to businesses and consumers; notes that the up to speeds advertised by broadband providers often vary widely from the actual slower speeds available on a given customer line; welcomes the decision by the independent Ofcom consumer panel to write to the six top UK broadband providers encouraging them to change their sales practices properly to inform customers of their likely connection speed; and calls on Ofcom to ensure that customers have a longer cooling off period to ensure that they are satisfied that their connection speed matches the provider's promise.

This motion has been signed by a total of 48 MPs.
