Fairtrade Foundation

EDM number 1937 in 2008-09, proposed by Nigel Evans on 20/07/2009.
Categorised under the topics of International development and International trade.

That this House fully supports the work of the Fairtrade Foundation; believes that long-standing relationships with producers in developing countries through Fairtrade help protect against global price fluctuations and allow suppliers to invest in the development of their local communities; notes that Sainsbury's is the biggest UK retailer of Fairtrade products and that next year it hopes to return around 2 million in Fairtrade products to developing countries; and calls on the Government to work with UK industries to encourage Fairtrade providing quality products for UK customers and a sustainable future for the developing world.

This motion has been signed by a total of 67 MPs.
