That this House notes with grave concern that almost 6,000 people die every day from AIDS-related illnesses; congratulates the UK Consortium onAIDS and International Development on its work to understand and develop effective approachesto the problemscreated by the HIV epidemic in developing countries; further congratulates the Governmenton making progress on its promise of universal access to HIV treatment, prevention, care and support by 2010 and its increased commitment to the Global Fund on AIDS, TB and Malaria; and urges the Government to promote generic medicines by tackling trade barriers and by developing a patent pool for essential medicines, as promoted by the Stop AIDS campaign, and to address the health worker shortage and provide long-term financing to continue to strengthen services and infrastructure in developing nations.
